Jenks: Reviews

Mr. Jenkins volunteered his time and talent at our annual Muscle Walk for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in January.  I found him to be very skilled in his craft juggling and overall entertainment as well as personable to our clients and client families.

Corey Jenkins is a pleasure to work with and demonstrates professionalism...Most importantly, our clients loved his performance and exhibited smiles, laughs, and animation.  Mr. Jenkins kept our event upbeat and energetic and we cannot thank him enough for bringing smiles to the faces of our diverse clientele.

We look forward to working with Corey Jenkins in the future and recommend his performances to an array of venues whether casual or professional, young or mature audiences.

I just wanted to tell you how much we LOVE the new CD. The kids are constantly singing the songs. The other day they put on their own "Jenks concert" singing all their favorite songs and some great air guitar! Keep up the good work!!!

I just wanted to say thank you for your gracious offer to perform for our children. From their faces on Saturday it appeared they had a great time! The PTSA was able to raise additional funds that were not originally in its budget so we were very thankful for that as well! It seemed win/win for everyone!

We all had a great time, and I just wanted to say thanks for your willingness to be a part of it!

November 1, 2010 — In preparation for the follow-up to a debut CD called "Animals from A to Z," the band Jenks made it a point to finish their homework.

Dodgeball, school lunches, recess and sick days are just a few of the themes listeners will find on the group's newest compilation of songs, titled "School Rocks." Band founder Corey Jenkins of the Evergreen Ward in the Spokane East Stake said the CD of kids' music started with "an ode to school lunch."

"Our school lunches were cool when I was a kid," Corey said. "At our concerts when we ask kids about school lunch, it's about 50/50."

Jenks, comprised of Corey and his sister, Annie Jenkins-Schatz, who lives Moscow, Idaho with her husband and three kids, released their first album in 2007 and have been a staple on the area concert scene ever since. The summer tour this year included stops in Klamath Falls, Ore., Rexburg, Idaho, Spokane Valley, the Tri-Cities, Moscow and more.

Corey, who is married with two children, said the schedule of shows always puts family first.

"Our concerts aren't at bars and clubs," he said "They're in the afternoon and early evenings."

Corey said he is cognizant of the shortage of suitable contemporary music and makes it a point to write tunes that are "100-percent appropriate for kids."

"It's tough to listen to mainstream radio for more than 10 minutes without hearing something where you have to turn it off," he said. "I'm very careful of the media our family listens to and watches."

Jenks is known for fun, energetic music with lyrics that ring with wit and wisdom. The latest CD includes selections that chronicle a variety of school experiences from an off-key band practice to snow days and catching the bus on time.

"Anyone who went to school with us will probably recognize the references," said Corey.

This Saturday, Nov. 6, Jenks will journey back to campus for a special CD release party in Spokane Valley at Adams Elementary, 14707 E. Eighth Ave., from 3 to 5 p.m. The free event will include a concert, popcorn and signed CDs for $12 each.

"It's going to be cool," Corey said.
